Nassau Hall was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1961 and is the main symbol of this great University. The bronze tigers flanking the front steps were designed by the sculptor, A. P. Proctor. The Tiger has been Princeton’s mascot since the early 1880s.

Nassau Hall became the nation’s capital when the Continental Congress met there between June and November of 1783, and Congress was there when the British signed a peace treaty granting independence to the former colonies.
