Princeton Battle Monument Gold Plated Ornament by Design Concepts

Design Concepts by Joan Ellis

This ornament is from a series of Princeton historic landmark ornaments.  These beautiful gold plated solid brass ornaments are certain to become a treasured heirloom.

The Princeton Battle Monument was designed by Thomas Hastings and sculpted by Frederick MacMonnies.  The design, cut in limestone, is reminiscent of the Bellona relief on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.  The memorial was unveiled in 1922 by President Warren Harding.  It depicts Washington on horseback sternly refusing defeat at the Battle of Princeton and inspiring his troops to final victory.  On the back of the monument are inscriptions in Latin and English and on the sides are coats of arms, including those of Princeton and New Jersey.
